Supporting Employees with Disabilities

In support of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October, the Transition to Work team is hosting two events for employers who hire students for work placements, or permanent positions.

  • ACCOMMODATIONS FOR EMPLOYEES WITH DISABILITIES: Tips & Tools for Employers
  • Those who attend the online webinar on October 24 will hear from CIBC, the Transition to Work Program sponsor, and get an overview of how to navigate accommodation requests. At 1 pm, after the lunch break, attendees will learn about some free online tools to support the accommodation process. Staff and faculty are welcome to attend this webinar.

  • DISABILITY AWARENESS & CONFIDENCE TRAINING: A Workshop for Employers
  • At the in-person workshop on October 29th those who attend will complete the Disability Awareness & Confidence Training session led by Sarah Birch of the Ontario Disability Employment Network. The day ends with a networking session with students who have disabilities.

Hiring people with disabilities makes good business sense, but there are many misconceptions about accommodations that get in the way of hiring Humber Polytechnic graduates who have disabilities.

Through this training you'll learn the facts about disability employment, and how to navigate hiring and accommodating people with disabilities.
