Highlights from the Career Preparation Symposium

About The Event

The Transition to Work Program aims to enhance successful career outcomes and strategies for persons with disabilities.

The March 2024 Career Preparation Symposium complemented the full agenda of Career Month events at Humber Polytechnic by providing information specifically for people with disabilities.

The event was organized in two parts:

  1. KEYNOTE SPEECH (March 12)

    Tim Rose, Senior Accessibility Consultant at CIBC, business leader, writer and activist delivered his keynote speech, Preparing to Trailblaze: A Disability Positive Career Journey. A Q&A session with Tim followed the speech.

  2. PANEL DISCUSSION (March 13)

    A panel made up of human resource specialists and alumni shared their stories and recommendations to help people with disabilities prepare to launch their careers.

    • Sophie Lemieux, Director of People at Fable
    • Cindy Zarnett, CHRL, a Certified HR Leader and founder of Squaredots
    • Shaun Ghulam, REMAX Realtor, and Seneca and Humber alumnu
    • Aaron Inocencio, Creative and Digital Administrator at Level5 Strategy, and Humber alumnus

Resources for students were shared in the event chat and slide decks that outlined supports available at Humber Polytechnic, University of Guelph-Humber, and Seneca Polytechnic to help students prepare for their careers.

Each day, a $500 gift card draw was held. The prizes were won by a Humber Polytechnic student and a Humber Polytechnic alumnus.
